Phu Quoc: Which Area Should You Stay In?

For easy access to night markets and restaurants, stay in Duong Dong; for beach relaxation, consider Long Beach or Ong Lang. If the Hon Thom Cable Car and island tours are your priority, look to An Thoi or southern Sunset Town; if your plans center on VinWonders and the safari, the north is convenient. Phu Quoc International Airport is in the middle of the island: Duong Dong is about 15 minutes away and southern Sunset Town about 30 minutes. Most airport transfers take around 10–30 minutes.

One day in the south | Sao Beach and an island tour or the Hon Thom Cable Car

For a beach and boat day, visit Sao Beach, then choose a day trip for island hopping and snorkeling from An Thoi Port. The islands visited and route may change depending on the weather and sea conditions.

In the evening, enjoy the sunset and night views from Sunset Town and Kiss Bridge, then continue the night with dinner at a southern seafood restaurant or a cocktail bar or pub.

When is a good time to visit?

For beach time and boat trips, the dry season from November to April is generally a good choice. You can expect clear skies and calm seas during this period.

From May to October, the rainy season can bring short, heavy showers and rough seas, and conditions on west coast beaches may vary. When waves are high, consider Sao Beach or Bai Khem Beach on the east coast as alternatives. Check sea conditions on the day before taking a boat trip or visiting the beach.

What should you prepare before entering the country?

Foreign passport holders may qualify for a separate visa-free stay of up to 30 days in Phu Quoc. This is separate from visa-free entry to mainland Vietnam, so if you plan to visit outside Phu Quoc, check mainland entry requirements for your nationality or make sure you have a valid Vietnamese visa.

When traveling to Phu Quoc via another international airport in Vietnam, you must remain in the international transit area to qualify for the special exemption. If your journey requires clearing immigration on the mainland, check visa requirements separately.
